Let it Go

I caught up with a childhood friend of mine yesterday.  She was recently going through some difficult personal struggles but I was amazed at her resilience.  All the advice and support that poured into her life from friends and family really shined through.  Even though she was a little unsure and still shaky from her recent experiences, I admired her new perspective on managing her feelings and attitude.

Forgive them, even if they are not sorry. Holding on to anger only hurts you, not them.!

She told me a meaningful piece of advice that she held on to which helped her to realize how to move on from her feelings of anger in a forgiving way:

You can feel angry but you cannot stay that way... as long as there is anger in your heart, you cannot love others.

What a powerfully supportive reminder!  Yes, life events and trials may leave someone bitter or angry, but the longer people harbor those feelings inside, the more it fills and takes over their heart.  The Catholic faith has something special to say about this as well:  "Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Bible, New International Version, Matthew 18:18).
